First of all, congratulations!
You are having a new baby! Now for serious business. As you prepare mentally and physically for your new baby, you have to prepare your house and car for your new baby too!
Prepare mentally for the newborn.
Remember, women adjust to newborns faster than men; so don't expect your husband to start acting like a father as soon as he announces his pregnancy. They are not like that. Women adjust psychologically better to a newborn as they go through physical, emotional and psychological changes. These changes will help them get used to the new baby more quickly. However, when men see the belly or feel the baby's twinkle on mom's belly, they start to feel the new baby.
Physical preparation of the new baby.
New dads can prepare for a newborn baby. What the father has to do must be done before the new baby is conceived. However, once the new baby is conceived, the new father may try to quit smoking, drinking, and other vices. New moms have to do the same.
Planning for the new baby:
house and car.
With a new baby, this will affect changes in your home depending on whether you plan to sleep with your baby or keep your baby in a separate room. Regardless, we recommend having a separate room for your newborn, even if the newborn sleeps with the new parents for the first few months. A crib, some toys, a place to keep all baby clothes, shelves for easy access to lotions, creams, wipes, diapers, etc. must all be close to the changing table.
You'll also want to consider getting a baby chair; a home baby chair (suitable for dining table height) and a car baby chair (for travel). Some baby chairs can be fitted with adult high chairs and installed in the car at the same time. They're a little more expensive than traditional baby chairs, but they're versatile, functional, and super comfortable for your new baby.
Other things that are important to your newborn.
Honestly, the gist depends entirely on your own preferences, budget and lifestyle. You can skip some of these if you don't want to waste your money.
If you've had babies before, you probably don't need much new baby clothes. Newborn babies quickly outgrow their clothes and buying new clothes is a waste of money. You can also get family heirlooms from nieces and nephews if you want. What you should probably get are blankets, sweaters, coats, and outside clothes. At home, old clothes won't bother your new baby. In fact, your newborn may prefer to wear old clothes over new ones. Don't forget about feeding essentials such as baby carriers, breast pump (if you plan to express your new baby at work), baby bottles, cloth nappies, diapers, baby wipes, lotion, shampoo, body wash, towels, Baby blankets, baby bedding, bibs, strollers and more.
Don't worry, you'll do fine. The best thing you can do is get unbiased recommendations from friends and family.
